Pure Taste- what a welcome addition to the London restaurant market! Diners who like to eat real, clean food, are now meticulously catered for six days a week at this gem in Notting Hill. The menu, designed and prepared by owner and head chef Holly and her team, is not only exclusively paleo but offers dishes to suit those with autoimmune conditions or other restrictive diets.

Holly’s self proclaimed mission is to change the way people see ‘free-from’ food, – as a mouth-watering way of eating that leaves you feeling less bloated and more energized. Who wouldn’t want to eat from and be inspired by a fine dining menu created by an expert paleo nutritionist?!

The restaurant is entirely gluten and dairy free, so there is no risk of cross contamination. The staff are refreshingly knowledgeable in relation to various dietary restrictions. They won’t flinch if you tell them you’re eating low FODMAP, Whole30 or the Specific Carbohydrate Diet. In fact, the restaurant ensures that they have dishes which comply with these plans on their menu, which is redesigned every eight weeks.

A range of biodynamic wines have been carefully selected, and are the perfect accompaniment for those who want to indulge.

For a fine dining experience the prices are very reasonable, with main courses coming in at around £17 – £20, and starters/deserts around the £8 mark.

Duck with spiced Clementine and Cranberry Sauce

Having gluten and dairy intolerances myself, the ability to browse the menu and choose absolutely anything featured was a pleasure in itself, even before the food arrived!

Try the greens soup and chicken hearts for a novel choice of starter, or their crispy salmon fish cakes which are served with some delightful accompaniments.

The highlight of the evening was a main course of ox cheek braise, orange, celeriac & spring greens. It was a phenomenally tender and tasty dish, beautifully served.

I could just about squeeze in a chocolate lava cake with ginger ‘ice cream’ & chocolate shard for dessert, which was to die for. Plus it was made all the more delicious by the absence of any guilt!

Chocolate and strawberry tart

Take your family, friends or anyone who is yet to explore the world of paleo, and show them that the world of clean eating can be a delicious and satisfying experience without any of the unwanted post-meal side effects.   Well done to Pure Taste for blazing a trail and catering for people who want to go out for some good clean fun!

It firmly has the Paleo Polly seal of approval!

  1. Unfortunately Pure Taste has closed its doors mid June. Holly, the proprietor was looking for further investment to boost the restaurant, but unable to secure more and numbers were too low.

    • I know…. I saw on Facebook, and was really sorry to hear about it.

I she was doing a great job- I think she is doing Pop-Ups now, so I wish her all the best with future projects.
